SUMMARY This Category R&D Manager role will assume R&D responsibility of core China innovation hub innovation pipeline and will be responsible to deliver NPD, EPD initiatives along with defining and driving the strategy for this segment. The role will require a high level of people management skills, and stake-holder management. It will also require a high level of collaboration and partnership to manage the team deliverables. SCOPE / DIMENSIONS OF ROLE Scope of role would include (but not limited to); - To partner the CDO/Local market team, to build and deliver the 3 year pipeline, developing technology strategies supporting the innovation strategy and product strategy within China - Lead a x-functional team of R&D Scientists, providing coaching and mentoring to drive personal development and category deliverables - Work within the R&D matrix organisation to develop and deliver superior science as a foundation to all innovation. - Build relationships internal and external, including supplier(s) and consultants were needed. - Champion Intellectual property, encouraging a spirit to identify opportunities to generate Intellectual Property, or alternative options to drive technology ownability. - Building close working relationships with key internal stakeholders, leading and holding accountable a large multi-functional project team, including 3rd parties, to ensure flawless delivery of projects. The role requires strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently within a multi-disciplinary project team. Strong technical & problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to navigate through ambiguity are an essential requirement of the role. RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES General: Typical responsibilities would include (but not limited to); - To partner the CDO/Local market team, to build and deliver the pipeline, developing technology strategies supporting the innovation strategy and product strategy of within the condom portfolio ensuring science and rigor at the heart. Innovation could be product, packaging, claims or any other part of the innovation ecosystem. - Develop talent – Drive within your team and across the R&D organisation both People development and talent management, ensuring clear technical and/or non technical personal development plans are set for all. - Partner with the China innovation hub to support and drive China first innovation. - The role will be suitably hands-on, so you will need to lead/do some programs directly working partners and stakeholders. - As part of the management team, activity drive prioritisation and collaboration to help drive outperformance. - Build relationships internal and external, including supplier(s) and consultants were needed. - Pro-actively drive, lead, and coordinate the cross-functional team when needed. - Champion Intellectual property, encouraging a spirit to identify opportunities to generate Intellectual Property, or alternative options to drive technology ownability. - Building close working relationships with key internal stakeholders, leading and holding accountable a large multi-functional project team, including 3rd parties, to ensure flawless delivery of projects. - Champion and drive sustainability in everything we do. Quality : • Be aware, accountable and follow GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) rules & regulations. • Enforce quality mind & awareness for working in area by following documented procedures & follow good documentation practice. • Be compliance to requirements of ISO13485 and other relevant regulatory requirements as required based on role & function responsibility. • Always think “Quality is my responsibility”. Safety, Health & Environment : • Be aware, accountable for safety, health and environment in workplace all time to ensure free-accident and good environment area of working. • Follow which support the safety, health and environment regulations, company policies by working safely, reporting unsafe condition / unsafe action / near miss accident to supervisor as well as suggest for any improvement. • Be compliance to requirements of ISO14001, ISO45001, other relevant EHS regulatory and company EHS requirements as required based on role & function responsibility. • Always think "Safety, Health and Environmental is my responsibility". KEY CHALLENGES • Across multiple time zones - Partner with cross functional team to define future strategy of the category along with delivery of 3 year pipeline. • Prioritisation – Working with x-f partners drive prioritisation needs to deliver the business and category needs. • Drive the delivery of key project milestones within a complex regulatory framework. • Using theoretical and practical scientific and technical skills to solve project-associated problems. • Dealing with a large volume of work whilst delivering on time and maintaining high quality standards. • Working with, managing and influencing senior stakeholders to drive the R&D business strategy. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED • Good degree in a relevant scientific discipline. • > 8 years relevant experience within product development within an FMCG environment. • People management and People development experience is vital, with good motivational, interpersonal and communication skills. Coaching skills is an essential quality with the ability to give constructive balanced feedback when needed. • High level Project Management Skills • Experience within an innovation team and experience of medical device development is preferred. • Knowledge and hands on experience working on products with several different regulatory classifications would be beneficial. i.e. Medical Devices, OTC pharmaceuticals, Personal care products, Cosmetics, supplements, general products • Experience working with latex/polymer science is preferred PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES • Results oriented, entrepreneurial and self-motivated, with solid planning and organisational capabilities. • Strong intellectual curiosity with an appetite for exploring new and previously uncharted territories and an openness to change and ability to think out of the box. • Have good motivational, interpersonal and communication skills to a wide audience of different skillsets. • Ability to navigate ambiguous situations, review data & situations and form a proposed recommendation. • Proven ability to work under pressure without compromising on deliverables. • Understanding of strategy and planning issues, consumer understanding and priority setting. • Inclusive mindset
